School value
These whole-school values are discussed and practised in class and through our school assemblies throughout the half term. In Autumn 1 our focus is cooperation and in Autumn 2 we will be focusing on communication.
English

The library at Touchbase Pears is a great place to borrow books and is free to join and use.

Computing
We use the Teach Computing curriculum. In Autumn 1 our topic is Computing systems and networks – Systems and searching. In Summer 2 our topic is Creating media – Video production.

Art and Design
We use sketchbooks to record and develop our ideas, whilst exploring different media (such as press-print, digital printing and mixed media surfaces) and the work of other artists. During the Autumn term, our topic is Craft and design; Architecture. We will sketch a house from first and second-hand observation, follow steps to create a print with clear lines, with some smudging, and purposefully evaluate our work, demonstrating what went well and what could be improved. Take a look at walk through Birmingham city centre that focuses on the old buildings we have!
Design and Technology
We will be exploring textiles, where we will be using our skills of making templates, sewing and attaching fastenings to create stuffed toys. We will also be exploring Electrical systems: Doodlers, where we will be using our electrical circuits knowledge to create a doodler!
Geography
In our geography work, we will be answering the question: Would you like to live in the desert? We will develop our knowledge of desert biomes, where deserts are located, what features occur in the desert and what threats danger the environment. History
In our history work we, will be learning about the Ancient Greeks. Enjoy playing this game as well as developing knowledge on ancient Greek family life, gods and goddesses, and warfare.
Spanish
This term, we will be continuing to practise our pronunciation and conversational Spanish skills. In Autumn 1 we will learn nouns to use when talking about our family. In Autumn 2 we will be learning how to read and say the date/months of the year.
Music
This term, Miss Wyatt will be teaching the children all aspects of the music curriculum for Year 5.

PE
In the Autumn term, Year 5 will take part in Dance lessons linked with the topic of Ancient Greece as well as developing their skills and knowledge in playing invasion games.
RSHE
Children in Year 5 will learning how to take care of their health and and mental well-being as well as our specific topics being Family and relationships and Economic well-being. We will look at friendships, marriage, stereotypes, and handling money online.
RE
Our topics for this term are Caring for others, animals and the environment and Sharing and being generous. We will discuss these topics in line with the Birmingham Agreed Syllabus which promotes respect, tolerance and understanding.
