Maths and Computing

This week Year One have been working hard on really thinking about turns and directions while programming the BeeBot toy.

First we started by moving each other around on a huge grid on the carpet. This started us thinking about the commands and programming for the BeeBot while thinking about left, right and quarter turns for our maths. The BeeBot can only follow a few simple instructions so the children have had to stop using phrases like “I want it to go there”, “it needs to go that way four times” or “it needs to go right four times” and use language like “press left three times and press forward twice”. Another simple but crucial part of the programming is to clear previous instructions.

Homework is going out on Friday  . . . check your emails and book bags!

Please see the photographs to see what we have been up to and how we have been learning. It is harder than it first appears.
