Repeated Refrain Poetry – inspire by The Little Match Girl Strikes Back

After completing the heroic story of our Little Match Girl – Bridie Sweeney – we were inspired to create some poetry.

We worked in pairs to discuss the major themes from the story, and create repeated refrains which emphasised these.

Next, we prepared our background illustrations using Lauren Child as our inspiration. We had a limited palette of colours, just like in the book, and used collage papers and charcoal to create our illustrations.

 

Finally, we used Google Slides to insert the picture and them superimpose the text over the top.  The results are quite spectacular, we hope you agree.
