School Value:

This term our Value is cooperation and politeness.

Maths:

We are focusing on adding and subtracting 2 digit and  1’s, 2 digit plus 2 digit, 2 digit and tens. This includes understanding commutative law and the inverse relationships between addition and subtraction. Mathletics is a great way to support your child at home. You can also use Scratch Garden to practice counting in 2’s,5’s and 10’s.

Literacy:

We are reading Biscuit Bear. We will recall key events that have taken place. We will imagine that we are one of the characters and write from their point of view. With our writing our main focus will be ensuring that we use capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and the correct formation of letters.

The library at Touchbase Pears is a great place to borrow books and is free to join and use. This online library is another great place to read.

Phonics:

We use the Little Wandle Early Reading Programme to teach phonics and spellings. Keep an eye out on the Year 2 Blog Zone for regular updates for weekly spellings. If you have any questions or you would like to know how you can support your child please click here .

Part of the programme encourages reading regularly. You too can read the book that your child has been reading in class 3 times a week on Collins ebooks.

Science:

This term Year 2 will be learning to : identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

We will compare the use of everyday materials in and around the school with materials found in other places. We will be identifying and classifying the uses of different materials, and recording our observations. 

Art:

We will be focusing on collage. We will begin overlapping and overlaying to create effects that will create new dimensions to our work. 

R.E.

We will be focusing on Living By Rules, Being Temperate, Exercising Self Discipline & Cultivating Serene Contentment, Being Regardful of Suffering, Sharing & Being Generous. We shall achieve this by observing different faiths and celebrations.

History:

We are focusing on events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally.

 

Geography:

We will be focusing on similarities and differences in humans and physical geography, UK and contrasting non european country. We will also look at 7 continents of the world and directional language.

You can use google earth to support this.

Computing:

This half term Year 2 will use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate, and retrieve digital content, recognise common uses of information technology beyond school.

We will use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when we have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.

P.E.:

This half term we are going to master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities.
