A busy start to year 1!

Year 1 have been extremely busy over the last few weeks here at Tiverton academy! We are very proud of what we have achieved so far.

D.T

Year 1 are learning about windmills as part of the D.T curriculum for mechanisms. We are learning to create stable structures and find the centre point of an object.

Art

We are learning to create marks by exploring lines. We have focused on vocabulary such as diagonal, horizontal, wavy and cross hatch. We then described our favourite line and created this using a different medium using chalks.

History

Year 1 are learning about “How we are making history?” We are using our very own significant events and putting them into chronological order.

English

We are reading a variety of stories and poems. Here we were set a challenge. We worked in groups to see if Mrs Zafar’s sentences were correct. We found that all sentences need to start with a capital letter, have finger spaces and have the correct punctuation. We are focusing on full stops.

Maths

In maths we have worked extremely hard. We have been focusing on place value to 10 and have been learning lots of new vocabulary such smallest to biggest, greater or less than.  We have been counting forwards and back wards within 10 and from any given number within 10. Keep practicing at home!

Geography

We are learning about where we live and to do this we have focused on ariel view maps of The United Kingdom, Birmingham and Selly Oak. We have been learning about direction fowards, backwards, left, right to help us move around using a map. We then created messy maps of our class room to help us use the knowledge of direction.

Music

This term in Music we have been focusing on rhythms and patterns and using musical instruments to create these patterns. Of course we have continued with our beautiful singing!
