Thank you so much to all our families for coming to our exhibition this week!…
World Book Day 2020
Today, Year 6 celebrated World Book Day in style; we could choose to create a book character from a potato, create a scene (in a shoebox) from a favourite book or dress up in character costume. We were encouraged to reuse and recycle items in order to create our outfits/items. We had some fabulous potato creations, including the invention of a new story and character – the “Spatato” (potato from space – of course!)
Can you spot some of these characters in the mix: Demon Dentist, Cat in the Hat x 2, Katniss Everdeen, a soldier from After Tomorrow, Legolas from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, King Solomon, Mummy from Goosebumps, Matilda, Miss Hardbroom from the Worst Witch and several Harry Potters!
Our next creative challenge was to turn our classroom door into the cover of one of our favourite books, so we chose this Tom Gates classic by Liz Pichon. Each team was allocated a sixth of the cover design and set to work creating their elements. It took a while and lots of problem-solving to make it all fit together but….
the end results were a triumph!
The fun did not end there though! All the classes in the school were treated to a “Secret Reader” – someone unexpected was invited into the class to share a favourite story or poem with the class. As you can see from their faces, Year 6 were absolutely astounded when they found out who their secret reader was – Mrs Arshad, from all the way across the globe! What a treat!
